2. About Tourism Management Organizations (DMOs)

A destination management organization (DMO) is an organization that takes the lead in developing a destination, incorporating a scientific approach while involving a variety of local stakeholders. DMO stands for Destination Management/Marketing Organization. As of the end of March 2024, there are 348 DMOs registered with the Japan Tourism Agency nationwide, and they are classified into three types depending on the region they manage: wide-area collaborative DMOs, regional collaborative DMOs, and regional DMOs.
